Chapter 67: 01/25/2024 Deep Space Lord's Weekly Journal

Hey everyone! It's time for another weekly journal!
This week, I wrapped up my current commissions and immediately fell down the Palworld rabbit hole! I know the game has its fair share of controversy, but honestly, the early game is incredibly fun and I was having a blast. However, now that I've hit level 24, it's starting to feel like a bit of a grind, and the game's flaws are becoming a lot more obvious. For example, even though you can use resources anywhere in your base without carrying them, finding specific items means digging through every single chest—so you still end up having to organize everything meticulously anyway. Furthermore, late-game leveling relies heavily on catching Pals, but the combat and movement systems feel really clunky. I keep dying right when I'm trying to catch something, and recalling Pals is super unresponsive, so combat just doesn't feel satisfying right now. Between the clunky combat and the glitchy Pal AI, the frustration is definitely starting to build. It has some great highs, and you don't really notice the bugs early on, but the longer you play, the more you realize how much polish it still needs. Plus, I've been hearing a lot about server save files getting corrupted lately. So, after a few days of absolute addiction, I think I'm pretty much done with it for now. I've experienced everything I wanted to, and I'd say I definitely got my money's worth!
On a brighter note, Enshrouded—a game I've played before—finally launched! Surprisingly, the price point is actually a lot lower than what people were expecting. I'm definitely planning to dive into it, and since it's currently 10% off, I might just grab a copy now so I can play it with my VTuber friends later.
Aside from my Palworld addiction, I also spent the last couple of days rushing to finish knitting a scarf for my mom! I tried out a new knitting method, but it ended up way too thick, which made it a little too short. I think I cast on too many stitches, so next time I'll try dropping it down to six. There's definitely room for improvement, but the final product is incredibly thick and cozy. My mom absolutely loves it, which makes me so happy!
I also watched a couple of anime series this week. First up was Doctor Elise. It's right up my alley in terms of genre, but I wasn't totally sold on the art style or the pacing. I've heard the comic is fantastic, though, so I might check that out eventually. On the other hand, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic is absolutely amazing! It was so good that I immediately went and found the manga to read. I actually prefer the anime's character designs (they're a bit more polished), and the pacing and animation are surprisingly solid. You can tell it doesn't have a massive budget, but it still looks great! My favorite part is definitely the protagonist's personality—his sheer grit and refusal to give up are genuinely inspiring. The older characters who got transported with him seem pretty cool, too. I'll definitely be keeping up with this one!
That's about it for this week's journal. See you all next week!
