20221027 Deep Space Domain Lord's Weekly Journal Chapter 2

By the time you all read this week's journal, I'll probably be recovering from LASIK surgery, hehe~ And please, don't ask why a spiritual entity needs vision correction.

This week's topic is the K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE. You can find all their basic info on Wikipedia, so instead, I'm going to share the story of how I first discovered them!

The first member I noticed was Soojin. I stumbled upon one of her fancams, which led me down the rabbit hole to the rest of the group. I learned that out of the six members, three were from overseas: our very own Taiwanese beluga whale baby, Shuhua; the effortlessly cool Yuqi from China; and the gorgeous Minnie from Thailand. The three Korean members are just as distinct: Miyeon, the stunning oldest member; Soyeon, the incredibly talented leader; and Soojin, the captivating main dancer! (Wow, I ended up introducing the whole group anyway, LOL.)

Because half the group is international, every member of (G)I-DLE brings an incredibly unique flavor to the table. If I had to sum up their vibe, it would be "unapologetically themselves." They're also wonderfully inclusive of one another. There's this genuine harmony within the group—a real sense of mutual respect and care. Honestly, that's exactly what drew me to them in the first place!

Their title track, "Nxde," from their October 17th comeback, is the ultimate anthem of self-expression. When Soyeon wrote it, her mindset was basically, "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not." So, while "Nxde" literally means naked, the real message is about self-affirmation, self-love, and living authentically. It's about unapologetically embracing who you are, without giving a damn about anyone else's expectations. The last two lines of the song are particularly brilliant: "I was born naked, the one with the dirty mind is you." I think that extends perfectly to today's climate—I'm going to show up exactly as I am, so if you're out here being overly critical, maybe you need to take a hard look at your own toxic mindset. (Just my personal takeaway, of course!)

Alright, I'll wrap it up here. Long story short, (G)I-DLE is a phenomenally talented girl group with an identity that's entirely their own. What makes them even cooler is that they're self-producing—Soyeon, Minnie, and Yuqi are heavily involved in making most of their albums. I can't recommend their music enough! You definitely need to check out "Nxde." From the concept (which pays homage to Marilyn Monroe and Banksy) to the production, lyrics, and the music video itself—it's an absolute masterpiece. I highly recommend watching the behind-the-scenes footage too; it just adds a whole new layer of appreciation.

Until next time, bye!
