[Sofia's Life Diary] Taiwanese Comics Recs from CCC — 4/22/2023

Hi everyone~ today I want to recommend some Taiwanese comics! (The cover art is by yours truly, master painter Sofia, made in MS Paint — pretty impressive, right?)

Does everyone know about CCC Creative Comics Collection?

It started out as a print magazine on history and comics handed out at conventions, later became a regular monthly release, and now it's even got its own reading platform — CCC Comic Tracker!

On top of the original CCC serials, the platform now hosts Taiwanese comics from all kinds of publishers.

There's everything from 4-panel gags and webtoons to comedy, romance, and even mystery/thriller titles.

Here are a few of my personal favorites~

A Walk, A Walk

https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/91/content

A relaxed, easygoing slice-of-life comic~

Isn't everyone's life just way too hectic these days?

Sometimes it's worth slowing down — you might notice things you'd been missing all along.

Swan No. 9

https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/274/content

A story about clones, AI, and everything that comes with it.

The visuals and mood are gorgeous — I'll leave the rest for you to experience yourself.

Helena and Mr. Big Bad Wolf

I first found this through the artist Blitz's warm little sibling illustrations on Plurk.

Turns out it's actually a full-length story that will absolutely wreck you emotionally...!

Cat and the Other Side of the Sea

https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/163/content

A story about two girls who become friends through drawing together!

Monday Trash Day-sensei's portrayal of women in this one is incredible.

Foreign Traces of Tea

https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/161/content

A story about tea cultivation in northern Taiwan!

Not every chapter is free to read, but I highly recommend checking out the ones that are.

I actually own the entire physical print run myself.

Take Me to the Ballpark

https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/296/content

This was actually my first introduction to Chang Sheh-ya-sensei's work, and I was so happy to see this series get a proper collected volume.

Even someone like me who doesn't know baseball can feel the highs and lows of being a fan through this comic — I'm sure real baseball fans who follow the pro league will get even more out of it.

That's my list of Taiwanese comics you can read for free on CCC~

Beyond these, there are tons of other great Taiwanese comics on the platform too, and the mobile/tablet app makes it super convenient to read!

Go treasure-hunting anytime~

No sponsorship in this post, but I'm always happy to take one 🫶

You all might've forgotten, but Sofia is actually a fae princess from the future who traveled back to this era specifically because of her love of literature and books.

Honestly, even I kind of forgot that myself.
